Lesson Thirteen:

The Miracle Existence Of Israel And The Second Coming

TEXT: Jeremiah 31:35-36  - Thus says the Lord, which gives the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divides the sea when the waves thereof roar; The Lord of hosts is his name: [36] If those ordinances depart from before me, says the Lord, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.

It is a miracle that Jewish people still exist today. After thousands of years of not having a country or temple and being persecuted wherever they went, there should be none left. But God said as long as there is a son, and moon and stars, there will be a physical Jew on the face of this Earth!

Jeremiah 31:35-36  - Thus says the Lord, which gives the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divides the sea when the waves thereof roar; The Lord of hosts is his name: [36] If those ordinances depart from before me, says the Lord, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.

We know that during the Millennial Reign, Yeshua and His disciples will rule over the twelve tribes of Israel (Matthew 19:28). The ancient rabbis believed three things had to take place before Messiah would appear:

  1. First, Israel had to be restored as a Jewish nation. (This occurred in 1948.)

  2. Second, the temple had to be rebuilt in Jerusalem. (This could happen very quickly)

  3. Third, the ten lost tribes had to be restored to Israel. (This seemed impossible - until now)

Jeremiah 31:7-11  - For thus says the Lord; Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations: publish ye, praise ye, and say, O Lord, save thy people, the remnant of Israel. [8] Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the coasts of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travails with child together: a great company shall return thither. [9] They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn. [10] Hear the word of the Lord, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock. [11] For the Lord hath redeemed Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he.

Matthew 19:28
And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

  • Isaiah's Prophecy And Recent Discoveries

Isaiah 11:11  - And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

As prophesied in the Bible and recorded throughout history, God scattered the Jewish people throughout the nations, leaving only a tiny remnant in the land. Nearly 2000 years later they began to return to Israel. Although Israel was restored as a state in May of 1948, it was not until June of 1967 after the Six-Day War that the Jewish people returned to the heart of the Promised Land – the regions of Judea and Samaria.  Film maker Simcha Jacobovici, a traditional Jew, read about the above locations where the lost tribes were scattered in Isaiah 11:11. He set up a scientific expedition to find and document the existence of these tribes. Not only did he find them exactly where God scattered them, but he discovered that they had not assimilated!

In one case he found descendants from the tribe of Manasseh living in Northeast India. They observe the Sabbath, the festivals and the biblical Jewish laws. In 2000, the Israeli Ministry of the Interior granted citizenship to the first 100 members of the tribe. All ten "lost" tribes have been located. However, they say, "We are not lost!" Many of the tribes practice an aberrant form of Judaism, but all have relics and customs proving their heritage. I agree with them and the Word of God - they are not lost!

Ezekiel 36 has a great deal to say about the return of the Jewish people to the heartland of Israel. “…mountains of Israel, you shall shoot forth your branches and yield your fruit to My people, Israel, for they are about to come…” and again: “I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, all of it; and the cities shall be inhabited and the ruins rebuiltI will make you inhabited as in former times, and do better for you than at your beginningsI will cause men to walk on you (the mountains), My people Israel; they shall take possession of you and you shall be their inheritance…

Ezekiel 36:1-38
Also, thou son of man, prophesy unto the mountains of Israel, and say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord: [2] Thus saith the Lord God; Because the enemy hath said against you, Aha, even the ancient high places are ours in possession: [3] Therefore prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord God; Because they have made you desolate, and swallowed you up on every side, that ye might be a possession unto the residue of the heathen, and ye are taken up in the lips of talkers, and are an infamy of the people: [4] Therefore, ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God; Thus saith the Lord God to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys, to the desolate wastes, and to the cities that are forsaken, which became a prey and derision to the residue of the heathen that are round about; [5] Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the heathen, and against all Idumea, which have appointed my land into their possession with the joy of all their heart, with despiteful minds, to cast it out for a prey. [6] Prophesy therefore concerning the land of Israel, and say unto the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I have spoken in my jealousy and in my fury, because ye have borne the shame of the heathen: [7] Therefore thus saith the Lord God; I have lifted up mine hand, Surely the heathen that are about you, they shall bear their shame. [8] But ye, O mountains of Israel, ye shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to my people of Israel; for they are at hand to come. [9] For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn unto you, and ye shall be tilled and sown: [10] And I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, even all of it: and the cities shall be inhabited, and the wastes shall be builded: [11] And I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and bring fruit: and I will settle you after your old estates, and will do better unto you than at your beginnings: and ye shall know that I am the Lord. [12] Yea, I will cause men to walk upon you, even my people Israel; and they shall possess thee, and thou shall be their inheritance, and thou shall no more henceforth bereave them of men. [13] Thus saith the Lord God; Because they say unto you, Thou land devourest up men, and hast bereaved thy nations; [14] Therefore thou shall devour men no more, neither bereave thy nations any more, saith the Lord God. [15] Neither will I cause men to hear in thee the shame of the heathen any more, neither shall thou bear the reproach of the people any more, neither shall thou cause thy nations to fall any more, saith the Lord God.

During the previous century we have witnessed a great return of Jewish people to the land and particularly the rebuilding of cities throughout the heartland. Large and beautiful cities now thrive in what was formerly wild and uninhabited mountains.  The Bible clearly states, as we have just seen, that the returned Jews would settle in this very area but the world media proclaims that it is wrong for them to do so. Even some believers who do not know the Word of God echo this false notion of world opinion.  The Word of the Lord has been and continues to be fulfilled in our very day in miraculous ways. Only God could have brought about the events that led to the formation of the Jewish state.

Bible believers who know God’s promises should be greatly encouraged to see the Jewish people back in the land for His faithfulness to Israel after so many years of dispersion is marvelous evidence of His faithfulness to all of us. Israel’s return to the land is a testimony to the world that the God of Israel can be trusted and His promises can be believed without hesitation.

  • An Everlasting Covenant Of Love

    God loves Israel!
    In Romans 11:28-29 Paul states:

Romans 11:28-29  - As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes. [29] For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

And then in Hosea:

Hosea 11:1-4  - When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt. [2] As they called them, so they went from them: they sacrificed unto Baalim, and burned incense to graven images. [3] I taught Ephraim also to go, taking them by their arms; but they knew not that I healed them. [4] I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat unto them.

Hosea 11:8  - How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? how shall I deliver thee, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? how shall I set thee as Zeboim? mine heart is turned within me, my repentings are kindled together.

God is crying out to Israel:

Jeremiah 3:14  - Turn, O backsliding children, says the Lord; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

If God refuses to violate His covenant love to His ancient Jewish people even in the face of their disobedience, imagine the love He has for His New Covenant people. Gentile Christian, stop and contemplate how much God loves you. God says to the older brother (type of the Gentile believer) in the parable of the prodigal son: "All that I have is yours." (Luke 15:31b)

  • No Jews Allowed

Throughout history, people like Haman in the Book of Esther, Queen Isabella of Spain, and Hitler have cursed the Jewish people. Entire nations have come against the Jewish people. Even here in the "land of the free," anti-Semitism is rampant. Sid Roth was telling of his experiences as a young child when he would see signs that read, "No Dogs or Blacks or Jews Allowed!" (except it used a different word for Blacks). Friend, that happened right here in the United States of America, not overseas in some European Anti-Semitic country. What is the result of all these curses? Jewish people as a whole are blind to the gospel. The devil has backed the Jew into a corner. There is no wonder they have bitterness, pain and hatred in their hearts. Their response is understandable. First, they blame God for the Holocaust. Then they blame Christians for their persecution - many church leaders were among the worst persecutors of the Jewish race. Even for Jews who love God those wounds are buried deep in their psyche.

How then can the Gentile church reach the Jewish people? One of the best methods is with a miracle of physical healing. But there is an even greater way. Malachi 4:5-6 says Elijah will prepare the way for the Messiah. The Spirit that was on Elijah will come on the church and allow it to walk in the pure love of God. Many spiritual "fathers" will be raised up. Their job will be to reveal the love of the Heavenly Father to the world, to the Jew first. Only the compassion of Father God will melt the deep bitterness in Jewish hearts.

  • Standing With The Jews

The Jewish people are the most love-starved people on the face of the earth; abused, misunderstood, persecuted, discriminated against, and murdered. The Jewish race have a covenant with God, but most Jews do not know HIM. As a result many Jewish people are on the forefront on unbiblical positions such as pro-abortion, pro-homosexual rights, pro-New Age and against school prayer. Some are involved in the smut of Hollywood and even the movement toward a global government. Although they are few percentage-wise, they are disproportionately involved in these causes. (For the sake of fairness many Jewish people have also made great scientific and medical discoveries that have brought great benefit to mankind.)

The devil's strategy is to use the anti-God stances of some Jewish people to cause nominal Christians to join non-believers in hating all Jews. The world and nominal Christians also hate true believers. First they will hate them for standing with the Jewish race. Then they will hate them for standing with the Jewish Messiah. First the natural, then the spiritual. Christians need to heed the warning of Mordecai he gave to Esther during the time the Jewish race faced total extinction at the hands of Haman:

Esther 4:13-14  - Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shall escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews. [14] For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

If God is for you, who can be against you?? God has faith in you and me. He is passionately and patiently waiting for this last generation to demonstrate Isaiah 49:22-23:

Isaiah 49:22-23  - Thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people: and they shall bring thy sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders. [23] And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the Lord: for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me.

Jewish people will know Yeshua is the Messiah when believers start acting like disciples and stop conforming to the world. The world will hate you, but the multitudes that are in heaven because of you will cheer at your homecoming!
