BURNING OF LEAVEN

You will notice that one place setting has not been touched throughout the meal.  This is the traditional place of Elijah.  Every year THE DOOR IS OPENED  to see if the prophet Elijah will come and announce the arrival of the Messiah.  “See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes.” (Malachi 4:5 NIV)

Jesus spoke of the one who came before Himself: John the baptizer, who was as the prophet Elijah.  John looked upon Jesus that day and said: “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29 KJV) You will also note some items on the Seder plate which have remained untouched.  One is the roasted egg, which represents sacrifice; which the Jewish people today say can no longer be made because of the Temple’s destruction in 70 AD.  However, we also realize that the egg is the symbol of eternal life.  It was in our Messiah’s sacrifice of death, that we all received the glorious gift of life.

The second item on the plate is the shankbone of the lamb, symbolic of the lambs which are no longer sacrificed.  Jesus was the final Passover lamb, and in His sacrifice on the cross is found our salvation.  In His death there is life; in the shedding of His blood there is remission of sin. There is a glorious prospect of Eternal Life.  It is a gift available to all.  It was not purchased with silver or gold, but with the blood of a Lamb without spot or blemish.  God’s only Begotten Son!

PRAISE HIS NAME, FOREVER!

THE LEADER ANNOUNCES:

The Seder of Passover is now complete, just as our salvation and redemption are complete in Yeshua.  As we have been privileged to celebrate the Passover Seder this year, may we also be privileged to celebrate it in the future.

ALL REPEAT IN UNISON:

“NEXT YEAR IN JERUSALEM!”

“L’shanah haba ah biyerushalayim!”
