The word Haggadah comes from a verse in Torah which states, “On that day tell your son, ‘I do this because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.’” (Exodus 13:8 NIV)
The word “tell” in Hebrew is "VeHiggadeta," from which we derive Haggadah meaning “to tell”. The most ancient source we have on the Haggadah is the Mishnah which dates back to about 200 A.D. The Haggadah has been translated into scores of languages and there are records of at least 3000 known editions.
